Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT FEES WILL I EXPECT TO PAY

For procedures that are performed in the operating theatre you will have the following fees: - Surgeon's fee; Hospital or facility fee (whether you have surgery in the hospital operating room or day surgery unit there will be a fee charged by the half hour); and Anaesthetic Fee. The anaesthetist's fee is paid to the anaesthetist directly and is billed by the half hour.

HOW LONG WILL MY COSMETIC SURGERY RESULTS LAST FOR?

The answer to this question is variable and depends on the type of surgery, for example rhinoplasty (nose surgery) and chin and/or cheek augmentation are permanent because they are structural surgical procedures. If the patient has anti-ageing surgery (eg. facelift, brow lift, etc.) then the longevity of the results depends on a number of factors, ie. genetics, sun damage, skin elasticity, etc. This should be discussed with Dr Zacharia at the consultation.

ARE THERE RISKS INVOLVED WITH SURGERY?

Any type of surgery has a potential risk. It is important to discuss all risks and complications with Dr Zacharia in detail at the initial consultation. It is also necessary to read all Consent For Surgery forms in detail before making a decision.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME AFTER COSMETIC SURGERY?

This depends on the type of surgery. After surgery the patient usually needs to spend at least 24 hours resting. Cold compresses are required to reduce swelling. Some patients require assistance at home for a day or two and usually a good friend or relative can be helpful here. Bruising and numbness to the area is associated with some procedures. There is usually some tenderness and discomfort associated with any surgery. Any pain after the procedure can usually be minimised with prescribed medication or mild analgesics.

WILL THERE BE SCARRING?

Most incisions are made in the natural creases of the skin, or behind the hairline. Before healing is complete scars can be hidden with make-up, most scars fade over time and are hardly noticeable.

WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO WORK?

Every patient's healing process depends on the type of procedure performed, their medical history (including genetics) and their pre-operative health. After a blepharoplasty or rhinoplasty procedure the patient can usually return to work in approximately 7 days, however, patients having facelift surgery usually need to wait a few weeks. Improvement in surgical techniques over the years have resulted in significantly reduced healing times.

CAN I DRIVE MYSELF HOME AFTER SURGERY?

No. The patient will need someone to drive them home and stay with then for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

CAN I GO HOME ON THE DAY OF SURGERY?

This depends entirely on the surgical procedure the patient is undergoing. If the patient is undergoing more than one procedure and/or their surgery will be in excess of 3 hours, then we would recommend an overnight stay in hospital.

WHERE IS THE SURGERY PERFORMED?

We are extremely fortunate to be attached to The Bondi Junction Private Hospital which has a fully accredited operating theatre and overnight hospital.
